One of the major themes that emerged from the November meeting with Inclusive Ames was the need for education on issues related to inclusivity. One topic that was requested by several people was “bystander intervention” training – how to speak up or step in when you witness something harmful or offensive happening. Another related theme was to learn about privilege, with the idea that if we’re not a member of a marginalized or oppressed group then we often don’t know about or see the additional challenges that that group faces. The Conversations and Trainings Team is currently working to gather resources in these two areas to plan for future community discussions, meetings, and/or trainings.
